Energy costs are the fastest-rising expense for today’s data centers. Naturally, power consumption is a top concern for managers of data center, enterprise, and cloud environments. Moreover, there are multiple proprietary power measurement and control protocols supported by various solution providers, making it challenging to have a single solution for power management across all devices in the data center. After a successful Intel IT proof of concept (PoC) using Intel® Data Center Manager (Intel® DCM) that ended in 2013, we deployed the solution across data centers in multiple countries. In our initial use of Intel DCM, we considered the solution to be focused primarily on gaining a better understanding of the power consumption and thermal status of servers. With broad deployment, we learned that Intel DCM is capable of much more.

Data security is a top priority and a daunting challenge for most organizations. Costly data breaches are incresing in number and sophiscation, and a growing list of regulations mandate that personal data be protected. At the same time, security technologies must not impede user productivity by creating obstacles or slowing performance, otherwise users might disable or circumvent them. A robust security strategy that includes authentication, encryption and advanced malware prevention enables an organization to keep data safe while enabling the way people work. Dell has conceived and executed an innovative securtiy strategy that provides date protection and threat prevention across an extensive line of products. o With foot traffic falling and online shopping options growing, retailers must find new ways to “digitize” and understand real-world behavioral data—such as in-store browsing patterns, staff attentiveness, and specific product interest— in the same way that online retail utilizes big data to optimize online experiences. They must also find innovative ways to keep customers engaged with their brands, especially in expensive brick-and-mortar locations. In this environment, managing labor costs is critical, as these costs are second only to real estate. Assigning and enabling sales associates cost-effectively is key to profitability. Retailers have an opportunity to meet their challenges by putting new data and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to work

The IoT is transforming the energy industry by eliminating tradeoffs between operation, SCADA systems, maintenance and new services for assets deployed in industrial and power facilities, buildings and across the grid. When it comes to building the best IoT system for your business application, it’s vital to keep your use case and business requirements at the forefront of your technical design strategy. In the energy industry, accessing and collecting data at the edge from disparate, heterogenous, multi-site, fixed topologies and transferring that data efficiently to the cloud to perform analytics and action business decisions is still the greatest challenge. Mission-critical data collected from the edge is integral to energy facility operations and cannot be excluded or corrupted.
