Across industries, customers today wield more power and greater choice than ever before – a power that they exercise by shifting their attention and spending (across multiple channels/devices in near-real time) from provider to provider. In this environment of hyper-connectedness and diminishing customer loyalty and fleeting human attention spans, the battle for holding customer interest and engaging him/her meaningfully requires, first and foremost, an everlasting commitment to "relevance. "Being relevant and demand-driven is of paramount importance to the media industry, but it is no less important to any industry that operates in a B2C world. However, adapting to the ever-rising expectations and changing buying behaviors of customers is becoming a Herculean task, requiring both business and technology transformation.

The data-driven organization is the new benchmark for success. Firms that harness data to dictate strategic and tactical decisions companywide make more informed business plans, better optimize operations, improve customer interactions, and provide competitive edge. To achieve these benefits, organizations increasingly see data refinement - transforming raw data from various sources into relevant and actionable information and delivering it through self - service access to any user who needs it - as the path toward success by helping break though immature processes and legacy systems. However, data refinement only functions as well as the strategies and approaches behind it. Organizations that do not understand the right way to embrace refinement will fail to catch up to competitors that have mastered the correct approach.

Cloud-based data presents a wealth of potential information for organizations seeking to build and maintain competitive advantage in their industries. However, as discussed in “The truth about information governance and the cloud,” most organizations will be challenged to reconcile their legacy on-premises data with new third-party cloud-based data. It is within these “hybrid” environments that people will look for insights to make critical decisions.

The perimeter continues to dissolve, and the definition of endpoint is evolving, according to results of the SANS 2016 Endpoint Security Survey, now in its third year. As we might expect, 90% or more consider desktops, servers, routers, firewalls and printers to be endpoints that need to be protected. After that, respondents include other less-typical devices in their definition of endpoints that warrant protection: 71% include building security (access/ surveillance), 59% include employee-owned mobile devices and 40% consider industrial control systems as endpoints that need to be protected. Some respondents also consider POS devices, smart cars, emulated endpoints in the cloud and wearables as endpoints needing protection, highlighting the diversity of thinking among respondents.

Cybercrime is more sophisticated and dangerous than ever before, and the scope of newly emerging threats is unprecedented. At the same time, the growing number and diversity of endpoints in the enterprise is expanding the network edge to the point of disappearing. Both these trends will continue with ongoing bring your-own-device (BYOD) initiatives and explode with the emerging Internet of Things (IoT).

IBM QRadar and BigFix solutions empower IT security teams to view, prioritize and respond to endpoint intelligence in near real time. How can an organization stay ahead of these advanced security threats? Maintaining a high level of baseline security by consistently enforcing security policies and patch levels on endpoints and servers is definitely required and important. But when networks can have multiple vulnerabilities per IP address at scan time, the slow process of mitigating and patching these weaknesses can result in dangerous security gaps. Today’s IT personnel have to make difficult, risk-based decisions on where to focus their efforts—often without having a complete picture of the security environment. This is even more critical when the number of vulnerabilities across the organization is increasing while the organization has limited resources and skills to fix the vulnerabilities.

The growth of virtualization has fundamentally changed the data center and raised numerous questions about data security and privacy. In fact, security concerns are the largest barrier to cloud adoption. Read this e-Book and learn how to protect sensitive data and demonstrate compliance. Virtualization is the creation of a logical rather than an actual physical version of something. such as a storage device, hardware platform, operating system, database or network resource. The usual goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving resilience, scalability and performance and lowering costs. Virtualization is part of an overall trend in enterprise IT towards autonomic computing, a scenario in which the IT environment will be able to manage itself based on an activity or set of activities. This means organizations use or pay for computing resources only as they need them.

An interactive white paper describing how to get smart about insider threat prevention - including how to guard against privileged user breaches, stop data breaches before they take hold, and take advantage of global threat intelligence and third-party collaboration. Security breaches are all over the news, and it can be easy to think that all the enemies are outside your organization. But the harsh reality is that more than half of all attacks are caused by either malicious insiders or inadvertent actors.1 In other words, the attacks are instigated by people you’d be likely to trust. And the threats can result in significant financial or reputational losses.

There's an old saying in information security: "We want our network to be like an M&M, with a hard crunchy outside and a soft chewy center." For today's digital business, this perimeter-based security model is ineffective against malicious insiders and targeted attacks. Security and risk (S&R) pros must eliminate the soft chewy center and make security ubiquitous throughout the digital business ecosystem — not just at the perimeter. In 2009, we developed a new information security model, called the Zero Trust Model, which has gained widespread acceptance and adoption. This report explains the vision and key concepts of the model. This is an update of a previously published report; Forrester reviews and updates it periodically for continued relevance and accuracy.

Securing your infrastructure, your customer interactions and protecting your data are critical to preserving your reputation and your bottom line. Many cyber attacks remain undetected for up to eight months1 and can cost an organization an average of 11 million USD.2 Today’s cyber actors are becoming more sophisticated, agile and capable of getting past any network security. Organizations must evolve, replacing traditional defensive security strategies with a proactive, intelligence-driven offense to prevent and disrupt these threats. IBM® i2® Enterprise Insight Analysis is a next generation intelligence solution that enables organizations to incorporate cyber threat hunting into their security strategy and turn their defense into a proactive offense. It helps organizations uncover critical insights about their threats and threat actors so they can mitigate and counter more threats with a combination of multi-dimensional visualte analysis capabilities
