T raditional backup systems fail to meet the needs of modern organizations by focusing on backup, not recovery. They treat databases as generic files to be copied, rather than as transactional workloads with specific data integrity, consistency, performance, and availability requirements. Additionally, highly regulated industries, such as financial services, are subject to ever?increasing regulatory mandates that require stringent protection against data breaches, data loss, malware, ransomware, and other risks. These risks require fiduciary?class data recovery to eliminate data loss exposure and ensure data integrity and compliance. This book explains modern database protection and recovery challenges (Chapter 1), the important aspects of a database protection and recovery solution (Chapter 2), Oracle’s database protection and recovery solutions (Chapter 3), and key reasons to choose Oracle for your database protection and recovery needs (Chapter 4).

"Many large enterprises struggle to decide which workloads and systems should be deployed in the public cloud versus on premise. With a strong on-premises platform in place, organizations benefit from increased reliability, speed, and security. On the other hand, by leveraging the public cloud, they gain increased flexibility and recovery capabilities. So, what goes best where? Jim Rapoza, Senior Research Analysts at Aberdeen Group and Chuck Hollis, Senior VP at Oracle, will provide guidance aimed at helping organizations choose the right platforms for their critical workloads. Backup and recovery have been a constant for organisations over the years, often not seen as glamorous aspects of an IT environment but as solutions that are necessary all the same. Environments have changed over the years and the focal use for backups have changed with them, although your solutions may not have. Taking a simple off-site backup, whether this be to disk, tape or other removable media, would once have been the last line of defence for data protection. Solutions were reliable and ensured data could be recovered in a timely manner.
