From stolen consumer data to sensitive data leaks, it seems that no one’s data has been safe in recent years. For numerous reasons, like misconfigured storage repositories and unpatched vulnerabilities, this trend is likely to continue. The integration of digital technology into all areas of business has resulted in more of our data being stored on computers and websites targeted by hackers, which has significantly increased the number of data breaches as well as organizations’ vulnerability to malware attacks. For example, the Equifax breach impacted 145 MM consumers, and with more employees working remotely on a wide range of devices, the threat landscape has expanded. The meteoric rise of the public cloud has compounded this issue, as data security requires new knowledge and skill sets in short supply, often leading to misconfigured and insecure solutions. Companies need to adopt the approach that every piece of data in their possession, on-premises or in the cloud, must be encryp

The scalability of its EP-LAN lets MMC Corp seize new opportunities without adding infrastructure. For example, Scales and Trusler are looking at virtual desktops or virtual desktop image [VDI] files for some offices and even job sites. “We’ll probably have to scale some bandwidth internally for that,” Trusler notes, “but if we do the VDI internally or we do it with an external third party, it doesn’t really matter… because we can get them on that EP-LAN network and we can get the bandwidth that we need… quickly.” EP-LAN is scalable. In most cases, adding additional services at a specific customer location can easily be turned up by Spectrum Enterprise remotely. Choosing a fiber EP-LAN over MPLS not only met the challenge to connect MMC Corp locations: it created an IT platform that continues to scale to support rapid expansion and innovation.

Teleworking has grown 115% in the past decade, according to the Society for Human Resources. However, in 2017, a number of large employers made headlines by abandoning their telework initiatives, citing the desire to improve communication, collaboration and teamwork. This move was surprising to many for two reasons: • Nearly three-quarters of millennials express a desire to have more opportunities to work remotely1. • Employers can save $11,000 per half-time telecommuter2. Do employees who work remotely feel less recognized, exhibit lower engagement levels or experience less attention from their manager? To find out, we conducted a regression analysis on our 2018 survey of 5,000 employees nationwide. The results presented on the following pages may surprise you.

The term outsourcing can have a negative connotation, conjuring images of layoffs and relocating jobs to third parties in remote locations. However, outsourcing can take many forms, and finance and accounting outsourcing (FAO) does not always mean the displacing of the finance back office. Specifically, FAO leverages digital technology to complement and support the back office, streamlining processes while providing enhanced transaction processing, reporting and analytics capabilities. It also allows key resources to focus on strategy, analysis and decision-making.

Global competition for talent, outsourcing labor, compliance legislation, remote workers, aging populations—these are just a few of the daunting challenges faced by HR organizations today. Yet the most commonly monitored workforce metrics do very little to deliver true insight into these topics. Leaders need to graduate from metrics to people analytics in order to uncover the important connections and patterns in their data that lead to better workforce decisions.

Departments of roads and highways around the world have begun to implement technology solutions to improve the safety of their highways, lessen congestion and manage traffic more efficiently. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), as these systems are known, require reliable, secure and scalable networks to link cameras, sensors, signage, signaling and vehicles to remote data centers and operation centers. These networks will be deployed in harsh environments and will pose their own unique challenges to operate, maintain and manage. In this application note, we will present the unique requirements of ITS networks and discuss how AlcatelLucent Enterprise products and technologies not only meet today’s ITS requirements, but are designed to grow and scale to meet tomorrow’s as well.

Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) is giving organizations the agility to respond quickly to demand for new products, services and applications. Many organisations begin their HCI journey by targeting specific use cases such as virtual desktop infrastructure, disaster recovery and remote office-branch office environments. But HCI continues to evolve far beyond these use cases. In this case study, we look at real world deployments to identify how HCI is helping businesses to reduce TCO, improve scalability and rapidly adopt new technologies. "VPNs were created for the networks and business environment of yesterday: Most employees worked in an office, devices were limited, enterprise architecture was far less complex, and attacks, in general, were considerably less sophisticated and frequent. What worked 20 years ago cannot be trusted today. Your VPN is cumbersome and time consuming from a management and performance perspective. But what you might not want to concede is that VPNs, by their very nature, pose a significant threat to enterprise security. The most significant IT transformation of this century is the rapid adoption of cloud-based applications. Most organizations are now dependent on a number of SaaS and IaaS platforms to deliver customer satisfaction and empower employee productivity. IT teams are responsible for delivering a high quality user experience for cloud applications while they struggle to manage a secure environment with advanced persistent threats. The WAN is the fabric to connect and control access between remote users and cloud-based applications. The WAN fabric needs to identify application type, location, apply prioritization and route traffic across the appropriate (multiple) WAN links to deliver on user experience. Different types of users/devices connecting to the cloud (via the Internet) means security policies must be enforced at branch, data center and in the cloud.

Enterprises currently face challenges regarding the price, performance, and flexibility of traditional wide area networks (WANs). Aggressive growth in the adoption of public cloud services (a projected 86% spike between 2014 and 2018)1 is forcing organizations to look elsewhere for a more effective network solution to address distributed traffic across remote sites and branch offices. Some of the specific issues organizations face with their traditional WANs include: - High total cost of ownership (TCO) - Lengthy provisioning cycles - Performance degradation with the growth of cloud traffic - Inadequate redundancy and resiliency - Lack of application-aware connectivity To better manage WAN investments, enterprises are adopting a new approach for their distributed branch office networks. Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) offers improved performance, agility, and operational flexibility plus significant cost savings. But not all SDWAN solutions are created equal.

The all-encompassing data center is a thing of the past. Modern data environments are distributed and include remote and branch offices, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as cloud solutions such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). There’s more critical data to back up than ever before. Plus, data silos and fragmented management mean poor visibility, which can make it difficult to comply with regional data residency and security rules as well as service-level agreements (SLAs). On-premises data protection has not kept pace. According to a survey by Fujitsu, 45% of IT managers said they had lost data or productivity related to data protection inefficiency within the last year.1 Often, this is because on-premises backups are cumbersome and do not always happen on time.
